Startup Weekend Chicago November 2010

by Brandon Zeman

Startup Weekend Chicago 2010

When: Friday, November 12 – Sunday, November 14
Location: Illinois Tech Association. 200 S Wacker Dr. 15th Floor. Chicago, IL 60606

Startup Weekend is back in Chicago! Following the success that was Startup Weekend Chicago in June, the organizers have decided to bring it back one more time in twenty ten. Details are slim at the moment, but registration is open, so I’d recommend getting registered now for two reasons.

  1. Use the earlybird code to save $25!
  2. The event sold out last year, so get a step on it.

Register for Startup Weekend Chicago

Use promo code “earlybird” by 10/22/2010 to receive $25 off registration

It’s that time again, folks. #latenightcrowd will once again gather for fun and frolic. This month’s location: Alice’s Lounge in Avondale. Located at the northeast corner of Belmont and Central Park, the #77 stops right in front, and the Blue Line and Expressway are a mere 3 blocks away. Perfect location for #latenightcrowd festivities, and for a quick getaway if needed!

Rumor has it there will also be a Bleeding Heart Bakery cake for @Mitch134‘s birthday, and for whoever else is celebrating this month.

PS, While not a Halloween party, costumes are highly encouraged, and will be laughed at accordingly!

Whrrl Presents a screening of the film Life in Perpetual Beta

Blog World Expo attendees: Come join us for an exclusive screening of Life in Perpetual Beta, a documentary film exploring the cultural shift occurring now due to our ever increasing access to technology.

Life In Perpetual Beta is produced and directed by first time filmmaker Melissa Pierce, and features technology and trend spotting heavy weights such as Seth Godin (author Tribes), Daniel Pink (author A Whole New Mind), Jeffrey Zeldman (CEO Happy Cog Design), Baratunde Thurston (Online Editor of the Onion) Juliette Powell (Huffington Post),Biz Stone (COO, Twitter) Carin Goldberg (Principal, Carin Goldberg Design), Gary Vaynerchuck (Host, Wine Library TV) and many more. It was crowdsourced and funded using social media.

The film is not about the very rich and very poor, but rather, it’s the first documentary to study those artists and entrepreneurs in the middle whose passions power the economy, creating new businesses, new business categories, and occasionally entire creative ecosystems – those whose efforts to live a more creative and authentic life create opportunities not just for themselves but for dozens and sometimes thousands of others. Whether they create web software, design posters, perform as musicians, or run entire musical tours, what unites these disparate creative entrepreneurs is their ability to sell their work without selling their souls.

Life in Perpetual Beta has been shown at the Chicago Independent Film Festival, The Los Angeles Hollywood Film Festival, The DUMBO Arts Festival, Seattle Geek Week, Digital Capital in Washington DC, and several private venues. It garnered a Merit Award at the Los Angeles Hollywood Film Festival.
